Project Brief
The design, supply, and installation of an innovative zinc cladding system were assigned to RDE Construction.
Full façade construction and compliance with fire safety and aesthetic standards were required. Project value was £1,200,000. Work began in June 2022, with completion set for November 2022.
Development
RDE Construction undertook a detailed and systematic approach to deliver the external cladding works. The tasks included the following:
Structural Preparation:
- A light gauge steel frame was built to form the structural backbone of the facades.
- Y Wall sheathing boards were installed to provide a robust and durable substrate for the cladding system.
Fire Safety Measures:
- Fire curb Tyvek was applied for full compliance with safety standards.
- EPDM membranes were fitted to seal gaps, and were then inspected and approved by a competent engineer to guarantee optimal performance and safety.
Installation of Supporting Framework:
- C Channels, flat plates, brackets, helping hands, T rails, and L rails were required to support the cladding system.
- Used precision alignment to ensure a seamless integration of all components.
Insulation and Cladding Application:
- Rainscreen duo slabs were installed to improve thermal insulation and enhance energy efficiency.
- Covered the facade with fire-rated aluminium and zinc cladding, ensuring both safety and a sleek, modern aesthetic.
- Flashings and fins were incorporated to complete the facade design, enhancing both functionality and visual appeal.
By working closely with project stakeholders, RDE Construction ensured that all works adhered to the design requirements, building regulations, and the client’s expectations.
Outcome
The project was completed in November 2022, successfully meeting the client’s timeline and budget requirements.
The newly installed facade system provided a balance of safety, durability, and contemporary design. Fire-rated aluminium and zinc cladding ensured compliance with modern building standards.
High-quality materials and precision engineering produced a visually striking finish. The completed facade enhanced the architectural vision of the St Mary Bredin development.
Through effective communication, professional site management, and technical expertise, the project exceeded the client’s expectations, culminating in a successful and timely handover.
